Employers’ Cultural Competence Toolkit
In June 2025, The Open Doors Initiative launched our latest toolkit: Employer’s Cultural Competence. Funded by AIB and The European Social Fund, the toolkit was authored by Dr. Toluwani Akaehomen, who led the research behind it. In the words of David McCormack, Chief People Officer at AIB
“This toolkit represents more than just a resource; it’s a call to action. It reminds us that meaningful change begins with awareness, and is sustained through continuous learnings, inclusive practices, and accountability.”
The toolkit was launched at the AIB Head Offices in Dublin, with a keynote from Dr. Toluwani Akaehomen and a panel discussion with Melissa Bosch (EDI Lead at EY), Adrian Moynihan (Head of Consumer at AIB), and Abdul Bari Ahmadzai (Business Development at ODI), chaired by Talita Holzer (Head of Programmes at ODI).
The toolkit includes research-based guidance and practical advice for business, including:
- Understanding key concepts and definitions
- Navigating different communication styles
- Assessing your organisation’s culture
- Becoming a culturally competent leader
- Supporting cultural competence in teamwork and customer service
- Leveraging cultural competence for inclusive recruitment and career progression
The toolkit is available to all ODI partners. Download it from our Research Hub
